Product description

Cold-pressed organic hemp seed oil is a distinctive plant oil for cosmetic formulations and is characterised by its high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Alpha-linolenic acid and linoleic acid shape the fatty acid profile, complemented by gamma-linolenic acid. Its intense green-yellow colour and spicy-nutty to herbaceous natural odour give formulations a characteristic natural character.

The oil is obtained by gentle cold pressing from the seeds of industrial hemp. Processing the oil as a virgin oil preserves its characteristic natural colour and odour.

In formulation terms, the combination of alpha-linolenic acid, linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid is particularly relevant. This fatty acid profile makes hemp seed oil an interesting formulation component for care concepts with a selected lipid composition. The oil absorbs well and leaves a smooth, velvety skin feel. Due to its high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids, the oxidative stability of the oil phase should be taken into account accordingly during formulation development.

The product is suitable for facial and body oils, emulsions, serums and hair care formulations.

The term ‘cold-pressed’ means that the oil has been obtained by pressing without the application of external heat and then filtered. It is neither refined nor deodorised. The term gives no precise indication of the temperature actually reached.

Cold-pressed oils have a limited shelf life and – with a few exceptions – should not be heated to high temperatures.
