Product description

Cold-pressed organic borage seed oil is characterised by its high content of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). With its pale yellow to greenish colour and characteristic odour, the oil is a distinctive speciality oil for demanding skin care formulations.

The oil is obtained by gentle cold pressing from borage seeds. Processing the oil as a virgin oil preserves its characteristic colour and natural odour.

In formulation terms, the high proportion of gamma-linolenic acid is particularly relevant, complemented by linoleic, oleic and palmitic acid. This distinctive fatty acid profile makes borage seed oil an interesting formulation component for care concepts with a selected lipid composition. It is often used as a proportion of oil blends and emulsions and can be combined with other plant oils.

The product is suitable for facial and body oils, rich emulsions, night care and other cosmetic formulations.

The term ‘cold-pressed’ means that the oil has been obtained by pressing without the application of external heat and then filtered. It is neither refined nor deodorised. The term gives no precise indication of the temperature actually reached.

Cold-pressed oils have a limited shelf life and – with a few exceptions – should not be heated to high temperatures.
