Babassu oil, organic

The whitish, soft and smooth babassu oil refined, organic is odourless. It contains a predominant proportion of lauric acid as well as myristic acid, palmitic acid and oleic acid. Its composition is similar to that of coconut oil. Our refined Babassu Oil is ORGANIC, COSMOS, NATRUE and KOSHER certified. It can be stored for at least 18 months.

Babassu Oil refined, organic provides excellent ingredients for skin and hair care. The oil is quickly absorbed into the skin, leaving it silky, soft and smooth without a greasy residue. It has moisturising properties, a slightly cooling effect, increases the skin's self-protection and is particularly suitable for the care of dry and inflamed skin. The oil is just as beneficial for hair care. Shampoos, conditioners and hair treatments with Babassu Oil provide intensive moisture, improve the hair structure and protect the hair from environmental influences. Babassu Oil refined, organic is very popular as a base oil for soap making, as the creamy foam formation gives a pleasant smooth consistency.

Our Babassu Oil is extracted from wild collection nuts. The trees are an essential resource in the Maranhão state in Brazil where thousands of families harvest the nuts year after year. The collection occurs naturally, without harming the environment or damaging the palm trees. During the harvest period, which is from August to January, the nuts fall down from the trees in large quantities and can then be collected.
Our partner works closely together with a non-profit cooperative from Maranhão, which aims to improve the quality of life of babassu nut growers and the preserve it. This includes basic rights, such as equality, right for food and education. The protection of the wild growing babassu palm from being displaced by other crops is also an important topic they fight for.
Furthermore, the cooperative is part of a network of social movement organizations such as local NGOs, like ASSEMA and AMTR, trade unions and family agricultural schools. Since the cooperative was set up, the quality of life of the members and their communities has substantially improved in many domains, from nutrition to education and from access to health care to decent housing. Most of all, as they reported, by acting together, they have empowered themselves and found their own way to freedom and social justice.
